Species diversity

REMOVE [1]

Species diversity is a measure of the diversity within an ecological community that incorporates both species richness (the number of species in a community) and the evenness of species' abundances. Species diversity is one component of the concept of biodiversity.

Contribution to the green economy:

A higher value of species richness (the number of species in a community) and the evenness of species' abundances is beneficial for the environment and for the Green Economy in general.

Potential misinterpretation:
This indicator measures both species richness (the number of species in a community) and the species abundance. However, is the species abundance limited to a few places?
Related Indicator:
Abundance and distribution of selected species [7]
Potential misinterpretation:
However, is the plant species abundance limited to a few places?
Related Indicator:
Distribution of plant species [15]
Potential misinterpretation:
Is species diversity increasing due to the introduction of alien species which are not beneficial for the environment?
Related Indicator:
Invasive alien species in Europe [16]
