Land cover distribution and change — outlook from MNP

REMOVE [1]

Land cover distribution and change is a modeled prediction of the distribution of land-cover types (tropical rain forest; desert; tundra; etc.) across the total world terrestrial area in 2050 based on different scenarios.

Unit of Measurement:

Percentage (%)

Description to get data:

The data is only presented in graphical form in the document. For the world and for each region, a box with three graphs is presented. The graph containing the data for this indicator is the last one: "Land cover distribution (%)". For instance, the data for the world can be found on page 36 in Figure 7c. Users should look up the region of interest in the table of contents on page 5 and then look for the graph in that section.

Contribution to the green economy:

Changes in arable and permanent crop land and wooded areas give important information about a country's/region's endowment in agricultural and forest resources, both from an economic and an environmental perspective. Economically, changes in land use will also affect the transition to a Green Economy.

Cost of accessing data:

Potential misinterpretation:
Is there less land use change occurring, but land fragmentation is increasing?
Related Indicator:
Landscape fragmentation [14]
Potential misinterpretation:
Is the overall land cover indicating a good development, but urban sprawl is also increasing?
Related Indicator:
