Contribution to the green economy:

A general increase in tourism activity is seen as positive for progress in competitiveness and employment, as well as positive spillovers in green fiscal policies. It may or may not also correlate with growth in eco-tourism. However, for the purpose of the green economy eco-tourism is preferred over traditional tourism.

Potential misinterpretation:
Tourism intensity may have had significant increases -- even causing overcapacity in accommodation in some years -- but the underlying number of tourist trips meeting ecologically sensitive criteria is unknown.
