Adjusted net national income per capita (current US$)

Adjusted net national income per capita is adjusted net national income (NNI) divided by number of people in the country.

Adjusted NNI is Gross National Income (GNI) minus consumption of fixed capital and natural resources depletion.

GNI is the sum of value added by all producers who are residents in a nation, plus any product taxes (minus subsidies) not included in output, plus income received from abroad such as employee compensation and property income.

Pension expenditure projections (baseline scenario) (for sub-theme public finance sustainability)

The pension expenditure indicator includes gross public pensions (i.e. before taxes and compulsory social security contributions) as a percentage of GDP. It is the sum of different categories of pension benefits, some of which (for example, disability pensions) may be paid to people who have not reached the standard retiring age. The projections are made on the basis of Eurostat's population projection - EUROPOP2010 - and commonly agreed underlying economic assumptions that have been prepared by the European Commission (DG ECFIN) and the Economic Policy Committee (Ageing Working Group).

    People at-risk-of-poverty or social exclusion

The indicator sums up the number of persons who are at risk of poverty, severely materially deprived or living in households with very low work intensity. Persons present in several sub-indicators are counted only once. Persons at risk of poverty have an equivalised disposable income below 60 % of the national median equivalised disposable income after social transfers. Material deprivation covers indicators relating to economic strain and durables.

    Primary energy consumption

By "Primary Energy Consumption" is meant the Gross Inland Consumption excluding all non-energy use of energy carriers (e.g. natural gas used not for combustion but for producing chemicals). This quantity is relevant for measuring the true energy consumption and for comparing it to the Europe 2020 targets. The "Percentage of savings" is calculated using these values of 2005 and its forecast for 2020 targets in Directive 2012/27/EU; the Europe 2020 target is reached when this value reaches the level of 20%.
