    Volunteering and Intergenerational Solidarity

    Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity and is intended to promote goodness or improve human quality of life. In return, this activity can produce a feeling of self-worth and respect. There is no financial gain involved for the individual. Volunteering may have positive benefits for the volunteer as well as for the person or community served

    Percentage of population in arrears. People who are in arrears of their mortgage or rent, utility bills or hire purchase.

    From whom would you get support if you needed help around the house when ill?

    Respondents were asked about the support available to them when help was needed around the house, in case of illness. Available answers were:

    1 A member of your family / relative
    2 A friend, neighbour, or someone else, who does not belong to your family or relatives
    3 A service provider, institution or organisation
    4 Nobody
    5 Don't Know
    6 Refusal to answer

    Distribution of population by household type and income group

    Shows what proportion of the national population fall into a variety of household types, constructed by reference to the numbers of adult members, their age and gender, and the numbers of dependent children living with them, as well as whether their income group is above or below 60% median equivalised income. All persons aged less then 18 are considered as dependent children, plus those economically inactive aged 18-24 living with at least one of their parents.

    Satisfaction with social life

    Respondents were asked to rank their perception of the quality of social life. Ranking levels ranged from 1 to 10, with 1 being very dissatisfied and 10 very satisfied. "Don't know" and "refusal" figured among the answers as well.
